Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 4 slices of ham
- 30g (1/4 cup) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 egg, beaten
- 100g (1 cup) breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
1. Prepare the Chicken
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Pound the chicken breasts to about 1 cm or 1/2-inch thickness between two pieces of plastic wrap or parchment paper.
Place a slice of ham and a slice of Swiss cheese on each chicken breast. Roll the chicken breasts up tightly, tucking in the sides as you go.
Secure with toothpicks if necessary.
2. Coat the Chicken
In a shallow dish, combine the flour, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Dredge each chicken roll in the flour mixture, then dip in the beaten egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
3. Cook the Chicken
Heat the butter and olive oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium heat. Add the chicken rolls and cook, turning occasionally, until golden brown on all sides.
Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is melted.
4. Serve
Remove the toothpicks and serve the chicken cordon bleu hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs and accompanied by your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.
